She grabbed international recognition and praise by giving the world one of the most memorable moments in the history of sport by scoring the world's first perfect 10 on bars that were symmetrical, at the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. Additionally, she also scored six perfect 10s which made her 14 years of old, the youngest Olympic medallist in every category. The dazzling Nadia Comaneci did more than draw attention, she helped Romania gain a global presence. The sports icon was a worldwide sensation after she came up with an unbeatable performance. She created a legend and helped to popularize gymnastics around the globe. The sport also altered the perception of female athletes. This was due to her impact at the Olympics, that both the moves toe-on (toes on) and the release move were named in her honor. These two moves have been regarded, till today, as tough. In addition to the Olympics she was also the hottest athlete in the World Championships and European Championships. Her performances have made her one of the top gymnasts of all time.
